A documentary about Valley Plaza & Laurel Plaza in North Hollywood.

These malls were unique, because they were the first ones to ever be built with the automobile in mind. Previous shopping centers were in heavily trafficked downtowns. Laurel Plaza & Valley Plaza were constructed next to the not-yet-built freeways.

I think some of these early facts, and the narration and score style are terrible, but still pretty fascinating for my previous urban planner self.

Would it be too much if I wore my new reproduction TR campaign pin as sorta a bolo tie-like thing on my old reproduction TR campaign bandana?

July 10, 1960: In Southern California, delegates descended on the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to nominate the Democratic candidate for president; John F. Kennedy won on the first ballot, almost doubling the votes that went to Lyndon B. Johnson. This photo adorned The Times Magazine cover, which provided a sort of guide to the convention’s goings-on, the “big powwow.” Photo: The New York Times
